The Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Virginia held its annual Cy Nicholas Luncheon on February 27,2020at the Commonwealth Club in Richmond, Virginia, and hosted a presentation by Dr. Karen Chase, author of Carrying Independence, a historical novel about the signing of the Declaration of Independence after the Philadelphia Convention of 1776, Governor Charles Grant reported today.

Dr. Chase is an independent author and a Daughter of the American Revolution with the Commonwealth Chapter in Virginia. Her novel is the first volume of her planned three-part Founding Documents Series. Dr. Chase was a Virginia Foundation for the Humanities fellow for the 2019-2020 academic year, with residency at the Library of Virginia.

The Cy Nicholas Luncheon is an annual meeting of the Colonial Warriors including guests, and memorializes Past Governor Cyrus Nicholas who, in 2012, championed the revival of the annual luncheon that was formerly held by the society, but had not occurred in years. The Virginia Society was saddened by the passing of Governor Nicholas on the very day the luncheon was resumed that year and later named the luncheon in his honor.
