Former Governor Cannon Hobson Goddin Passes Away

Cannon Hobson “Hoppy” Goddin, who served our Society as Governor in 1978-1980, among other posts, passed away on July 17, 2024, from natural causes. In addition to our Society, Hoppy, an amateur historian and very knowledgeable of Virginia and Civil War history, served as president of the Sons of the Revolution,  chairman of the Henricus Foundation, president of the Civil War Roundtable, and board member of Preservation Virginia. He chaired the Virginia committee that hosted the General Society’s 95th General Council Meeting in Richmond May 1998. A memorial service at Westminster Canterbury will be held on September 9 at 3 PM.
