Jamestown Collections Chief to Address Cy Nicholas Luncheon

Michael D. Lavin, Director of Collections and Conservation for Historic Jamestowne will be the featured speaker at the 2025 Cy Nicholas Luncheon being held at the Commonwealth Club in Richmond on February 20 by the Society of Colonial Wars in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Society Governor Blair Hearn Nelsen reports.

“The Virginia Society continues its annual luncheon meeting honoring former Governor Cyrus Barnholt Nicholas with an in depth look at the history and culture expressed through artifacts collected from the site of this founding settlement of our nation,” Governor Nelsen explained.

Lavin leads Jamestown’s Biorachaeology efforts. He has 29 years of experience that includes specialized expertise incorporating historic preservation and is proficient in the material culture of the 17th century, exhibit design and construction and photography.

His remarks will include an overview of the collection at Jamestown and his work with Dr. Jim Horn, Denise Kellogg, and Preservation Virginia on the “Save Jamestown” campaign. These efforts address a number preservation concerns including the effects of climate change and natural erosion that threaten the historic site of the colony’s first English settlement.

This event is open to Warriors of the Society and their male and female guests and is preceded by a brief social period starting a 11:40 a.m. with lunch and speaker following at noon.
