Welcome to the website of the Society of Colonial Wars in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our Society was founded in Richmond over 125 years ago by some of the Old Dominion’s most distinguished gentlemen to encourage the study of our nation’s history beginning from the first settlers landing at Jamestown in 1607 to the battle of Lexington in 1775 which led to our independence from Great Britain. To this day our Society continues to play a prominent role promoting and preserving our colonial history as well as celebrating our shared heritage as descendants of the men who established our beloved country.
Our Virginia Society is blessed to have so much colonial history around us. As the “mother of states,” most of our nation’s history can be traced back to Virginia. Our Society is very active. We hold regular meetings, give financial support to numerous museums and foundations to assist with historic preservation and regularly take on projects to commemorate significant events and locations throughout the state.
I encourage you to explore our site and learn more about our Society. If you would like to learn more about becoming a member please see our “Membership Information” page.
Fraternally,
Governor Blair Hearn Nelsen
