Message from the
Governor
Welcome to the website of the Society of Colonial Wars in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our Society was founded in Richmond in 1896 by some of the Old Dominion’s most distinguished gentlemen to encourage the study of our nation’s history beginning from the first settlers landing at Jamestown in 1607 to the battle of Lexington in 1775. To this day our Society continues to play a prominent role promoting, through education and events, and preserving the facts and sites of our colonial history as well as celebrating our shared heritage as descendants of the men who established our beloved country.
Our Virginia Society is blessed to have so much colonial history around us. As the “mother of states,” much of our nation’s history can be traced back to Virginia. Our Society holds regular meetings to learn about Colonial history from experts, financially supports numerous museums and foundations to assist with historic preservation and regularly takes on projects to commemorate significant events and locations throughout the state.
I encourage you to explore our site and learn more about our Society. If you would like to engage us in educational programs or begin the membership process, please use our contact form to let us know your questions or interest.
Fraternally,
Governor Blair Hearn Nelsen
