Biography of Blair Hearn Nelsen

Blair NelsenBlair Hearn Nelsen, Secretary for the Council of Society of Colonial Wars in the Commonwealth of Virginia, is from a Danish family which immigrated, first to Wisconsin, relocating to Richmond in the 1880’s. His great grandfather started the family’s funeral business. Blair attended Varina High School and UVA. He followed his dad into the Air Force, eventually gaining a post to England and meeting his wife, Darcie. Following his piloting career, he returned to the family business to expand its reach and services. Since the recent sale of Nelsen Funeral Homes to Service Corporation International, Blair remains a consultant in government and legislative affairs to the firm. Blair’s mother’s family were western pioneers in 1810, settling in what became Texas and his family line includes a Colonial judge in Pennsylvania, which is Blair’s connection to our Society. After serving a number of years on the Council, Blair was elected as Secretary in 2021. Blair and Darcie have two adult daughters, Mary Stuart and Elizabeth.
